West Baton Rouge School Employees to Receive Pay Increase for New School Year
The West Baton Rouge School System will increase salaries by 4% for the new school year, giving teachers an annual raise of $2,000 to $2,500 and support staff $1,000 to $1,500.

WEST BATON ROUGE, LA — The West Baton Rouge School System is set to boost salaries for its employees by 4% at the start of the new school year. This adjustment translates into an annual raise of $2,000 to $2,500 for teachers and $1,000 to $1,500 for support staff.

The pay raise, approved by the West Baton Rouge School Board in June, reflects the board's commitment to valuing its staff. School Board President Alden Chustz praised the decision, stating, "We are very fortunate to have a board that recognizes the value of the employees who support and nurture the children in our care every day."

Additionally, school system employees will benefit from a stipend approved by the Louisiana Legislature during its 2024 Spring session. Certified teachers will receive an extra $2,000, while support staff will get $1,000.

The School Board has also approved a restructuring of the salary scale for support staff. Previously on a 20-step scale, it will now expand to a 30-step scale, aligning it with the teachers' pay structure. This change is aimed at offering more advancement opportunities and encouraging long-term careers within the district.

Superintendent Chandler Smith expressed enthusiasm about the changes, saying, “We are pleased to announce this pay raise for our hardworking team members, recognizing their vital role in shaping the future of our students. This increase underscores our dedication to valuing and supporting the exceptional work our educators do every day.”
