New Voter ID Cards Distributed Amid Redistricting in East Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. — East Baton Rouge Parish voters will soon receive new voter identification cards due to significant redistricting changes. Registrar of Voters Steve Raborn announced this initiative to ensure voters are prepared for the upcoming fall elections.

"Every parish voter will receive a new voter information card because every voter has received a new Supreme Court district. And probably half of our voters have a new congressional district," Raborn stated.

Many long-term residents may be surprised by these changes. "Many voters in our parish have been in one congressional district or another for the last 10 years, many for decades, and now they may find themselves in a new district," Raborn explained.

The new voter ID cards will be mailed starting Friday, June 7th. State law mandates these new ID cards for voters whose districts have changed. This redistricting affects every voter in East Baton Rouge Parish's Supreme Court district, many in congressional districts, and some in Metro Council districts.

Raborn encourages voters to review their new cards for accuracy and to familiarize themselves with their new districts. Old cards should be destroyed. For those receiving cards for deceased family members, the office requests an obituary or death certificate to update the registration rolls. Cards for former residents should be marked "No longer at this address – Return to Sender" to initiate a cancellation process if no updates are made within two federal general elections.

For more information, voters can contact the Registrar of Voters office at 225-389-3940 or via email at eastbatonrougerova@sos.la.gov. Additional details are available on the Secretary of State's website.
