Saints Sign Southern University's Defensive Star Camron Peterson
NEW ORLEANS – Southern University defensive lineman Camron Peterson has signed with the New Orleans Saints, just ahead of the team's final roster cuts. Peterson, a standout in the HBCU football scene, joins the Saints alongside linebacker Anthony Dowell, following the team's decision to waive defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat and cornerback Kaleb Ford-Dement.
Peterson first caught the Saints' attention during a rookie minicamp where he showcased his skills but was not immediately offered a contract. After another opportunity to work out during training camp, the Saints opted to bring him on board.
Peterson, who declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, previously signed with the Baltimore Ravens after an impressive performance at the 2023 HBCU Legacy Bowl. His two seasons at Southern University were marked by 50 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two quarterback hurries, and one pass breakup, earning him All-SWAC honors as a pass rusher.
The Saints have also shown a continued interest in HBCU talent, previously signing offensive lineman Mark Evans II from Arkansas-Pine Bluff and wide receiver Shaq Davis from South Carolina State. Evans remains in competition for a spot on the team's offensive line.
