Mayor-President Broome Declares Emergency for East Baton Rouge Parish and Announces City-Parish Closure
Baton Rouge, LA — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome signed a parish-wide Emergency Disaster Declaration ahead of the expected arrival of Francine in Louisiana.
The local disaster declaration allows East Baton Rouge Parish (EBRP) to activate any and all necessary emergency plans and grants the ability to request resources in the event local resources may be exceeded in response to the potential effects of Hurricane Ida.
"Our City-Parish team is Red Stick Ready. We’re actively clearing storm drains, restocking sand locations, and are fully prepared to respond to our community," said Mayor Broome. "We ask our residents to do the same—take this time to create a plan and get your families and homes ready."
City-Parish Closure and Metropolitan Council Meeting
City-Parish offices will be closed Wednesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 12, due to Francine. The Metropolitan Council has rescheduled its meeting from Wednesday, September 11, to Wednesday, September 18, immediately following the Metro Council Zoning meeting.
