Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center Unveils $2.5 Million Expansion in Gonzales to Meet Growing Cancer Care Needs
GONZALES, La. — The Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has announced a $2.5 million expansion at its Gonzales facility, aiming to significantly increase capacity and improve patient care for the Ascension Parish community.
The expansion will add 6,000 square feet to the existing building on LA 30, including a 2,500-square-foot infusion suite designed to accommodate 14 semi-private infusion bays and a private treatment room. Additionally, the upgrade will feature a new chemotherapy mixing area, retail pharmacy, and lab.
Serving the Gonzales area for 15 years, the facility currently treats around 100 patients per month. The new improvements are expected to triple that capacity, providing more comprehensive care for local residents battling cancer.
“We understand the physical, mental, and emotional challenges that come with cancer,” said Ryan Houston, Cancer Programs Administrator for Mary Bird Perkins. “This expansion reflects our commitment to making treatment more accessible, convenient, and comfortable for patients and their caregivers. We’re excited to continue serving the growing needs of Ascension Parish.”
The project received a major financial boost from the Gonzales Area Foundation, which pledged $500,000 toward the effort. “Every contribution brings us closer to our goal, and all funds will stay within our community, directly benefiting local cancer patients,” said DeEtte DeArmond of the foundation.
This expansion is part of Mary Bird Perkins' ongoing dedication to enhancing cancer treatment services throughout Southeast Louisiana.
