Louisiana Taxpayers Urged to Claim State Refunds by September Deadline

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana taxpayers have until September 6, 2024, to claim millions of dollars in state tax refunds before they are transferred to the Unclaimed Property Division of the state treasurer's office.

The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) has sent Notice of Unclaimed Property letters to 18,801 individual and business taxpayers, informing them of the need to claim their refunds. The total amount at stake is $15,057,684.

Taxpayers who received a notice can claim their refunds by visiting the LDR's website at www.revenue.louisiana.gov/UnclaimedRefund and providing the requested information. Alternatively, they can complete and return the voucher attached to the notice, dated July 26, 2024.

The Department of Revenue will issue paper checks to all taxpayers submitting claims electronically or with the voucher by the September 6 deadline. Refunds not claimed by this date will still belong to the taxpayers and can be retrieved from the Unclaimed Property Division of the state treasurer’s office.

Taxpayers are encouraged to act promptly to avoid the transfer of their refunds to unclaimed property status.
