Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Announces Iconic 2025 Induction Class
The Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled its prestigious 2025 induction class, highlighting eight legendary figures whose achievements span a variety of sports. These inductees, each a dominant force in their respective fields, will be honored for their contributions to the state's rich athletic history.
- Andrew Whitworth, a West Monroe, LSU, and NFL standout, is a champion at every level. He won three state titles in high school, helped LSU capture a national championship in 2003, and crowned his 16-year NFL career by winning Super Bowl LVI with the Los Angeles Rams. Whitworth was also named the 2021 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for his community work.
- Danny Granger, a New Orleans native and Grace King High School graduate, enjoyed a stellar NBA career, averaging 17 points per game over 10 years. A 2009 NBA All-Star, Granger won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2010 World Championships.
- Vickie Johnson, one of the greatest players in Louisiana Tech Lady Techster history, was a two-time WNBA All-Star during her 13 seasons in the league. Johnson concluded her career by winning the 2008 Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award, cementing her legacy in women's basketball.
- Joe Scheuermann, the head coach of Delgado Community College’s baseball team, is Louisiana’s all-time winningest college baseball coach with 1,179 victories in 34 seasons. He joins his father, Rags Scheuermann, as the fourth father-son duo inducted into the Hall of Fame.
- Danny Broussard, one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in the country, has led St. Thomas More High School to six state titles in his 42-year career. With 1,130 career wins, he ranks seventh nationally and second in Louisiana history.
- April Burkholder, an LSU gymnastics icon, was a 14-time All-American and the 2006 NCAA beam champion. Burkholder’s record-setting 108 career wins helped transform LSU gymnastics into a national powerhouse.
- Dale Weiner, a transformative high school football coach, led Catholic High School in Baton Rouge to a state title in 2016 and posted 317 career wins over 35 seasons. He also coached 18 state championship weightlifting teams.
- George "Bobby" Soileau, an NCAA boxing champion at LSU, also found success as a high school football coach, leading Sacred Heart High School to a state championship in 1967. A 1988 inductee into the Louisiana High School Sports Hall of Fame, Soileau is recognized for his accomplishments in both boxing and football.
The 2025 class will be celebrated next summer in Natchitoches during the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame’s 66th Induction Celebration. These eight sports legends will join a distinguished group of over 500 Hall of Fame members, continuing the tradition of honoring Louisiana's greatest athletes, coaches, and sports figures.
