Louisiana Democrats Unanimously Endorse Kamala Harris for President at DNC

BATON ROUGE, La. — Louisiana’s Democratic delegates plan to unanimously endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for president at the upcoming Democratic National Convention. This decision follows President Joe Biden's announcement that he will not seek re-election and his endorsement of Harris for the 2024 Democratic Presidential nomination.

The Louisiana Democratic Party (LDP) previously expressed support for Biden's decision to step down and back Harris. In a statement, the LDP affirmed, “We will honor Joe Biden's legacy and the decision that he has made today by throwing our full support behind Kamala Harris and beating Donald Trump again this summer.”

The LDP's delegates met virtually on Sunday evening, reaching an overwhelming majority vote to endorse Harris. LDP Chair Randal Gaines confirmed the decision, highlighting the delegates' enthusiastic support.

“We are grateful to President Joe Biden for his remarkable leadership, and we are committed to honoring his legacy by working tirelessly this fall to keep the White House in Democratic hands,” said Gaines. “I am proud to share that Louisiana’s Democratic delegates will join President Biden in endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as our nominee. It’s time we come together, and by throwing our full support behind her, we can beat Donald Trump again and continue Joe Biden’s legacy of accomplishments and progress for our country. We look forward to a productive, energizing, and historic convention in which we nominate the first black woman as our Democratic nominee.”

The group, meeting for about an hour, saw delegates expressing glowing praise for Harris, emphasizing her qualifications, performance as vice president, and their confidence in her ability to fulfill the role of president.

The official vote will take place at the convention, which begins on Monday, August 19.
