BATON ROUGE, La. — Krish Mohip, previously a finalist for the superintendent position in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, has withdrawn his candidacy, according to an announcement by the school system.

This unexpected development narrows the field to two finalists: Kevin George and Andrea Zayas. George is currently the director of the University Laboratory School at LSU, where he has been credited with implementing innovative educational programs. Zayas, most recently serving as the executive director of a teacher pathway program in Boston, brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and teacher development.

The remaining candidates are scheduled to be interviewed by the superintendent search panel on Monday, July 8. These interviews will take place at the Professional Development Center on North Sherwood Forest Drive. Despite Mohip's withdrawal, a school system spokesperson confirmed that the interview schedule remains unchanged.

The selection process for the new superintendent began with a pool of 17 applicants. Over time, the candidates were narrowed down through a series of evaluations and interviews. Interim Superintendent Adam Smith, who had significant support from community members, was among the candidates but was not selected as a finalist in the meeting held on Friday, June 28.

The community is keenly awaiting the final decision, as the new superintendent will play a crucial role in shaping the future of education in East Baton Rouge Parish.
